It was an announced success for the Sicilian wines that participated at the “Best wines of Sicily”
tasting, which was held in Zurich on the 6th of October. Fourteen producers from the island
(Benanti, CVA Canicattì, Cantine Settesoli, Caruso & Minini, Cusumano, Donnafugata, Duca di
Salaparuta, Feudo Maccari, Firriato, Gulfi, Le Casematte, Planeta, Principe di Corleone and Valle
dell’Acate) enchanted with their products 250 operators present at the event organized by
Assovini Sicilia.
Switzerland was confirmed as a privileged market for Sicilian winemakers, capable of appreciating
not just the wine but the whole Sicilian territory and its culture. “There is an increasing focus on
products that are authentic and respectful of the territory,” says Matteo Catania, Gulfi’s export
sales manager. “This trend – underlines Agatino Failla, Benanti export manager – is reflected in the
growing interest especially in local vines that produce structured and complex wines”.
“Switzerland – adds Francesco Ferreri, president of Assovini – is an established and sensitive
market for all winemakers in Sicily”. Leoluca Pollara, sales and marketing manager of Principe di
Corleone, concurs with him saying that this is “a market that knows how to appreciate quality
products and that in the future it will always be able to give better results.”
